Reading today’s gold: BOT vs international
“Today’s gold price” often means two layers: COMEX gold in USD per troy ounce, and a Taiwan theoretical qian/gram in TWD. The latter is usually the former times Bank of Taiwan USD spot-sell — a theoretical index for comparison, not a jewelry, bank or recycler trade board.

Separate the two layers
International: COMEX gold futures (GC) or a public spot fallback in USD/oz on the international page. Taiwan: convert that USD reference into TWD/gram or TWD/qian on the homepage and jewelry page. Different jobs — not the same “board.”
Watching only one layer can make you assume shop prices move 1:1 with COMEX. FX, dealer spread and making charges still matter. See the Taiwan units guide for weight definitions.
What Bank of Taiwan FX does
Taiwan theoretical figures use Bank of Taiwan USD spot-sell (the side for buying USD with TWD), consistent with the Taiwan qian guide. FX can move the TWD index even when COMEX is flat.
That is a site-wide theoretical choice — not a bank selling gold and not a shop’s buy condition. When a source is limited, pages label a fallback and never invent missing prices.
Why shops and headlines differ
Shops add inventory, purity, making and risk; headlines may mix spot, futures or omit units. Trust the quote page’s symbol, source and status, and use Market news → Gold prices for context.
