Gold units: gram / qian / tael

Taiwan gold talk mixes grams, qian, Taiwan tael and troy ounces. Wrong units warp the number by an order of magnitude. This page lists the conversions this site uses and links to the Taiwan qian theory guide. Actual trades still follow shop weighing.

Conventions used here

1 qian = 3.75 g; 1 Taiwan tael = 10 qian = 37.5 g. A troy ounce is about 31.1034768 g — the usual COMEX unit. TWD/qian ÷ 3.75 ≈ TWD/gram; TWD/gram × 3.75 ≈ TWD/qian.

Linking to ounces and recycle maths

Convert USD/oz via Bank of Taiwan FX to TWD/gram, then scale to qian or tael as needed. If a recycle tool asks for qian weight, check whether the piece is labeled in grams or qian before typing.

Common misreads

Do not treat “Taiwan tael” as another region’s tael; here it is fixed at 37.5 g. Do not mix troy and avoirdupois ounces. If a headline omits units, verify on the quote page.
