Gold recycling estimate explained

Recycling estimates answer “roughly how much is this piece worth as scrap.” This site multiplies Taiwan theoretical buy by purity. The result is a reference band, not a same-day dealer bid, and excludes testing, melt loss, stone removal and fees.

What the formula computes

Recycle reference ≈ theoretical buy (TWD/qian) × purity × weight (qian). Theoretical buy still comes from COMEX × Bank of Taiwan USD spot-sell. 999.9 approximates fine gold; 916 (≈22K) and 750 (18K) scale down.

Homepage tools that start from “your dealer’s recycle quote” use your input — still not a posted site price.

Purity, loss and common deductions

Shops usually assay and weigh first, then deduct melt loss, plating, stone removal or handling. Karat jewelry and settings often face steeper haircuts than bars. Estimate pages do not pretend those are included.

Bring ID and confirm whether the quote is firm, how you are paid, and how long it lasts.

Different from jewelry sell estimates

Jewelry estimated sell is a buy-side premium check; recycling is a bid to purchase from you. Opposite directions — do not invert one into the other. After COMEX moves, refresh the recycling page.

Industry and demand briefs under Market news add context only.

Estimates are theoretical fine-gold references, not bids. Confirm in store. Not investment advice. No Offer/Product trade markup.

Recycling estimate FAQ

Can I demand a shop pay the estimate?

No. Estimates exclude testing, loss and fees and are not a dealer board. Weight, purity and same-day terms govern.

How do I choose 999.9, 916 or 750?

Match the stamped purity. If unsure, ask for an assay — do not assume a higher karat.

Why is recycle far below what I paid?

Purchase prices embed making and retail premium; recycle mostly pays fine-gold content after haircuts. That is market structure, not a broken calculator.
